"Even when I'm old and gray, I won't be able to play it, but I'll still
love the game."
- Michael Jordan
what are these?
I've been playing basketball ever since I was a young kid
growing up in eastern
Indiana.  Given Indiana's history as a
breeding ground for basketball talent, my
height, and a
shortage of better options for entertainment while growing
up in a small town, it was difficult
not to develop some kind
of affinity for the game.

I managed to make my high school's varsity basketball
team, and eventually became a walk-on member of the
team at
Rose-Hulman.  I didn't see much playing time on
that college team -- my ball-handling skills were less than
stellar, and my shooting touch was streaky at best.  But I
loved the physical challenge of practices, and I'll never
forget the thrill of dunking a basketball with ease.

Today, I still take a few minutes following my exercise
workouts to shoot a few baskets in the gym.  Hitting a
"nothing but net" shot from beyond the three-point line still
brings a smile to my face, even if I'm shooting alone.
