Six Sigma
"If you do not know how to ask the right question, you discover
nothing."
- W. Edwards Deming, statistician & educator (1900-1993)
what are these?
I started doing Six Sigma work in early 1987 -- about the
same time the methodology was pioneered by Motorola.
Most of my work as an
engineer involved Six Sigma
projects
(which sparked my desire to pursue my Masters
degree
in statistics).  I designed and conducted in-house
training courses on basic statistical analysis and design of
experiments for two different companies.

I once attended in the late 1980s a multi-day workshop
facilitated by Deming himself.  His passion for the use of
statistics in gaining an accurate assessment of business
reality was palpable.  I'll never forget the blank stares on
many of the faces in his audience as he spoke...I could
sense that he was onto something that American
companies were only beginning to recognize.

Although I use the methodology
more infrequently these
days, Six Sigma is ingrained in me -- much like riding a
bike.
